Description
This monograph develops a formal theory of sense that is neither semantic nor pragmatic in the classical meaning-theoretical tradition. Building on, yet fundamentally departing from, the Frege an distinction between sense (Sinn) and meaning (Bedeutung), as well as the early and late philosophies of Ludwig Wittgenstein, the study argues that existing accounts fail to explain why certain meanings persist, stabilize, and organize systems, while others remain admissible yet ineffective.
