Description

This book begin with a dissatisfaction that is widely shared yet rarely articulated precisely: the persistent gap between elegant functional models of rationality and the empirical reality of decision, cognition, and interaction. Expected utility, Cumulative Prospect Theory, and their descendants have achieved undeniable successes, but those successes are local. Outside narrow domains, they fragment into anomalies - preference reversals, context effects, scale dependence, instability, and sudden transitions. The usual response has been to add parameters, hybridize models, or reinterpret failures as noise. This book has taken a different path. The central claim of The Geometry of Interaction is that these failures are not empirical accidents but ontological mismatches. Functional models fail not because they are poorly calibrated, but because they attempt to represent a field-like object - interaction with memory, reinforcement, and scale dependence - using the language of functions.
